Earlier today French officials announced that their military jets had launched strikes over Libya. These strikes have destroyed several of Qaddafi’s tanks and armored vehicles. This action comes in response to continued attacks by pro-government forces against civilians.

Moments ago, the Pentagon reported that the United States has used Tomahawk missiles against Qaddafi’s anti-aircraft defenses. United States President Barack Obama is expected to speak momentarily.
Similarly, British Prime Minister David Cameron has announced that his country is in action over Libya.

4:30 p.m. on March 19, 2011: At a Pentagon briefing, it was reported that more than 110 Tomahawk missiles had been launched against over twenty Libyan air defense targets, most of which were located in the western part of the country. The targets were carefully selected and the strikes were coordinated with members of the international community in accordance with UNSC resolution 1973.
