Save Darfur by saving Sudan?

May 28th, 2009 by Andrew Burnette

Dr. Greg Austin has a new post titled “Obama and the new Commission: Save Darfur by saving Sudan?” He reminds his readers of President Obama’s promise of “unstinting resolve” to solve the crisis in Darfur–something that we’ve consistently reminded our activists. He also points out, accurately, that the United States will need partners to help establish a peace process in Darfur and Sudan, protect civilians, and ensure that necessary aid gets to those who need it.

Dr. Austin also makes a plea to the EU–that Europe  needs to rise to the occasion and become the principle partner of  the Obama Administration and Scott Gration to help end the conflict. With renewed fighting in Sudan, Darfur, and neighboring Chad, the time to act is now.

Go ahead and check it out.  Also, wander on over to EastWest Institute to see what they are up to.

Dr. Greg Austin is VP of the EastWest Institute and Director of the  Global Security Program and Policy Innovation.
