Yesterday, I wrote about a Darfur Consortium report that illustrates the effects of the international community’s inadequate efforts to deploy UNAMID, the A.U.-U.N. peacekeeping force for Darfur.
The report received a high-level endorsement today. Rodolphe Adada, the Joint A.U.-U.N. Special Representative for Darfur, expressed his appreciation for the Consortium’s effort to produce the report.
Adada, a former Congolese foreign minister, was appointed to his role in May 2007 and has dealt first-hand with the world’s sluggish response to the atrocities in Darfur. A press statement issued by his office today said:
[Mr. Adada] concurred with the report on its major findings, especially the critical shortages UNAMID continues to face in the area of troops, personnel, equipment and logistics.
He thanked the Consortium for adding its voice to that of UNAMID’s leadership in urging the international community to live up to its commitments and facilitate the Mission to implement its mandate.
