The Save Darfur Coalition is hosting its annual conference this weekend, along with STAND. This makes for a very diverse group of Darfur activist. Last night, there was a salon discussion with Gary Bass, who is the author of Freedom’s Battle: The Origins of Humanitarian Intervention. I admit that I haven’t read it yet, but the author highly recommends it. If you’ve read it, please let us know what you think.
This morning’s opening remarks were delivered to a packed ballroom, full of enthusastic supporters. Sam Bell from the Genocide Intervention Network and Nick Gaw, Director of STAND got the crowd fired up. Our own Jerry Fowler and John Pendergast (from the ENOUGH Project) explained the urgent need to continue to develop our ‘constituency of conscience.’
Right now, I’m sitting in on an interactive panel titled “Weaving a Web of Protection for Darfuri Women and Girls.” Anna Bartlet, Katie Gualtieri, Shelly Moskowitz, and Kara Smith sit on the panel. SDC previewed our Violence Against Women video, which will be released in February.
